Birth Story Medicine
Promoting Healing Through Birth Story Sharing
If you have had a difficult birth (or witnessed one), or if you have felt very disappointed by your birth experience, you will know that it can be very hard to process what has happened. There can be a tendency to sweep these emotions aside, leaving them to linger. It can take months or even years to come to terms with your experience. Long after the event, feelings of deep sadness, guilt, shame, anger and regret may remain. You say to yourself, "If only...."
Or perhaps you struggle to feel anything at all.
If you feel that you still have some healing to do around your birth experience, I can help.
My own journey through these hills and valleys has provided me a map...
After suffering a miscarriage, infertility, IVF treatments I went on to experience difficult labor, cesarean birth, more miscarriages, adoption, VBAC, home birth, traumatic hospital birth and postpartum depression that landed me in the mental hospital. My long journey home prompted me to find a map to help others find their way "home," to return to self-worth, self-love, and compassion for self and everyone in our birth culture.
Birth Story Healing is for mothers, partners, or birth attendants who:
~ were present at a birth where there was unwanted or unexpected interactions, moments, or outcomes during pregnancy, birth, or the postpartum period
~ could use some space to reflect on the events surrounding the birth
~ perhaps tried telling their story in a family or social setting and the experience was negative or stirred an uncomfortable inward or outward reaction
~ might be feeling either an overwhelming sense of being stuck or spinning out
~ want to prepare for a pregnancy and labour following a challenging birth experience.
This is a safe and non-judgmental process for mothers who feel ready to process and see their birth story in a new and more compassionate way- Ready to be heard, validated and gently supported through the uncovering of new insights and meaning.
