Rememberance - Rise Up (Re)treat
There are few things more beautiful than colorful prayer flags high above the Himalayas fluttering in the wind- sometimes waving gently, sometimes raging; a dance of shadow and light.
Prayer flags are not just pretty pieces of colored cloth with funny writing on them. Traditionally, prayer flags are used to promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom. The ancient Buddhist prayers, mantras and powerful symbols displayed on them carry those blessings to all beings. As wind passes over the surface of the flags, which are sensitive to the slightest movement of the wind, the air is purified and sanctified by the mantras. All beings that are touched by the wind are uplifted and a little happier. The silent prayers are blessings spoken on the breath of nature. Just as a drop of water can permeate the ocean, prayers dissolved in the wind extend to fill all of space.
The Grief & Gratitude (re)treat brings together women wanting to honor their experience of pregnancy or infant loss. When a group of women come together and hold and share each other's grief, that grief becomes sanctified and can be transformed into gratitude. Just as the silent prayers raised by prayer flags bless and uplift all that are touched by the wind that carries them, we are healed and strengthened as we rise above our loss together, lifting one another up in hope and renewal.
We will explore our experience(s) of loss with the intention of bringing more peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom to our lives through:
- mindfulness, gentle yoga & stillness practice
- creative writing & art
- birth story sharing, listening and responding introspectively
- a personal project of your choice devoted to remembering and honoring your experience of loss
There will be tears, but most likely they will be accompanied with laughter, nourishing food, and some wholehearted connection. We will reflect, connect, & honor our experience of pregnancy or infant loss, and move forward, upward and onward together. Just as life moves on and is replaced by new life, Tibetans renew their hopes for the world by continually mounting new prayer flags alongside the old. This act symbolizes a welcoming of life's changes and an acknowledgment that all beings are part of a greater ongoing cycle. We too will mount new hopes for our lives as we look forward to what blessings await us.
